For years, SEIM has worked to enhance and promote sustainable use of the mountainous territory of Valle Onsernone. In collaboration with the General Patriciate of Onsernone, it manages the Ribia and Arena huts, contributing to the conservation and vitality of the valley’s Alpine heritage.
Capanna Ribia originated from the transformation of a building in the ancient Ribia alpine pasture into an Alpine refuge. Thanks to the commitment of numerous volunteers, it has been maintained and improved over the years, becoming a key reference point for hikers.
Since 2021, with the inclusion of the hut in the Via Alta Vallemaggia route, interest and visitor numbers have grown steadily. Today, the facility records over 600 overnight stays annually, with peaks reaching 760 visitors. During peak periods, fully booked status is now common.
This presence generates tangible benefits for the entire valley: hikers use public transport, frequent public establishments and local shops, contributing to the local economy.
To respond to this growth and preserve the historical value of the Ribia hamlet, SEIM has launched a modernization and expansion project for Capanna Ribia. The goal is not only to improve guest reception but also to safeguard an important Alpine heritage asset and strengthen the tourist appeal of Valle Onsernone.
The total cost of the intervention is 997,000 CHF. Thanks to contributions already secured from public entities and foundations, approximately 10% of the investment still needs to be covered through donations, sponsorships, and crowdfunding.
Every contribution, large or small, brings us closer to realizing a project that looks toward the future of the valley, its mountains, and the generations that will live there.
Support the new Capanna Ribia as well. Together, we can turn this vision into a concrete reality.
